What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

First of all, let’s understand what trance is. Trance, is very ordinary, everyone goes in and out of trance every day. Here’s a couple of examples of trance; you might recognise that feeling when you’re driving and you can’t remember the last few minutes of your journey, or you’re doing the washing up and you realise you’re thinking of something completely different, this is trance. Trance is used during hypnotherapy is entirely different from the type of ‘stage hypnosis’ that you might have seen live or on TV.

During the relaxed state of trance (hypnosis), which I guide you into, you can experience changes in your conscious awareness, a bit like being in a daydream. Whilst in this relaxed state, the subconscious mind is more aware and can focus on suggestions and thoughts. During trance you are still in control and your mind can process and decide whether those suggestions and information are useful, it won’t accept or make you do anything against your will. It’s a bit like listening to a bedtime story, it’s an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable experience. Many clients say it’s their favourite part of our sessions.

Solution Focused hypnotherapy is a talking therapy that uses a combination of hypnosis (trance) and psychotherapy. By understanding the science behind how our brain works, in addition to some careful questioning, and guided relaxation (trance) this enables the subconscious mind to make those positive changes that you, the client, wishes to make. It’s all about focusing and identifying solutions and positive steps so that you can reach your preferred future rather than concentrating on whatever prompted you to seek help (the problem). Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is different to many other therapies as it doesn’t require us to go back to your past, as we don’t need this to work out a plan for how you want to move forward.

It’s a collaborative process, I work with clients, we’re a team working towards a positive future for the client. For changes to happen, it’s important that you want to make changes and that you’re prepared to make the necessary steps to allow this.

The Initial Consultation is a chance for me to understand what you want to achieve. During this first meeting, I will explain the science behind the brain so you can understand how I can help. I will also give you a download (trance) to listen to each night which will help you to start your journey to changing your life for the better.

Subsequent sessions involve a discussion about what’s been good in your week, this helps you focus on the positives from your week. We then revise the science behind the brain before working out where you would like to get to and steps on how to get you there. At the end of each session, we finish with the trance, which is so relaxing and all my clients say they look forward to it enormously. While you’re in trance, your subconscious mind is free to consolidate what we’ve discussed in the session.
