IBS

IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome is very common. The symptoms can make leading a normal life quite challenging.

Some people find it easier to stay at home rather than negotiate the stresses of getting out. Some find they need to plan their commute, trips or journeys around toilet availability. Others can find their bloating is so bad that clothes can be uncomfortable. It can also impact your social life too as certain foods or alcohol may make your IBS worse.

Many IBS sufferers find that their symptoms worsen during times of stress or when a life changing event happens such as moving house, getting divorced, suffering a bereavement or stress at work.

It’s always important to get your IBS symptoms checked by a medical professional so that they can exclude any other possible causes. Your GP will then decide on the best course of action for you, this may sometimes mean medication or a change of diet.

Various studies have shown that by reducing stress and anxiety, the symptoms of IBS can improve. Professor Whorwell at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester actually runs a hypnotherapy clinic for IBS patients.

During a study he showed that patients treated with hypnotherapy improved. Before treatment, 65% had severe IBS pre treatment with the remaining 35% having moderate IBS. After regular sessions, 25% were classed as severe, 40% moderate IBS and the remaining 35% mild IBS.

I have worked with numerous clients with IBS and managed to get them back to a stage where they can enjoy life more and that they’re no longer ruled by IBS symptoms.
