Client Consent (Online Sessions) and Terms and Conditions

This document must be read in conjunction with Iona Lawson Hypnotherapy’s Client GDPR policy, which contains important details about confidentiality and how your data/information will be handled. The client GDPR Policy can be read here.

I understand the following for those clients undertaking online sessions:  

About Online Video Sessions:

  • Zoom is an online communication tool allowing face-to-face video, voice, or text-based chat/dialogue. Zoom calling is encrypted to protect sensitive information. For more information on how Zoom keeps its client’s information private, please visit and review the information at the link below.

  • Zoom software is available on any computer or smart phone/tablet. Ensure that your device is password protected and only you have access to the password. In addition, use a password protected private Internet connection when on a Zoom call. You may wish to choose a username that does not identify you by name to ensure more privacy.
  • Any Internet-based communication is not 100% guaranteed to be secure/confidential. Every reasonable effort has been made to implement technical security measures that reduce risks of a confidentiality breach.
  • I have read the privacy and encryption information for Zoom and I agree that my hypnotherapist should not be held responsible if any outside party gains access to Zoom account information or transaction by bypassing online security measures.
  • Video sessions are to are utilized when in-office sessions are not convenient or possible.

My Responsibilities as the Client:

  • Hypnotherapy relies on the commitment and motivation from both the therapist and the client to get the best This includes the client’s full engagement in the process, regular attendance, implementation of learnings from the sessions into everyday life and listening daily to a hypnosis recording.
  • I am responsible for ensuring confidentiality by closing other programs on my computer while in a video session, planning ahead to minimize distractions, and not answering calls or text messages while on the Zoom call.
  • I also agree to be online five minutes prior to the scheduled video appointment (preferably in a quiet room alone with the door closed). Headphones may be used to increase privacy of session.
  • I accept the fee payable and the required 24-hour appointment cancellation notice. The full fee may be charged for cancellations otherwise.
  • Payment for each session (as per current prices on website these can be found here) must be made 24 hours in advance of the session by bank transfer. Bank details will be provided after the Initial Consultation
  • Full terms and conditions are available online at ionalawsonhypnotherapy.co.uk and I agree to abide by these.
  • I accept that results vary from individual to individual and as for any therapy, there is no 100% guarantee of success.

Therapist Responsibilities:

Client Consent Online Hypnotherapy

  • The therapist will Zoom call the client at the scheduled appointment time
  • The therapist will ensure they are alone in their office with a high quality, password protected wireless Internet connection.
  • The therapist will ensure all other distractions such as phone calls are eliminated during the video session.
  • Technical problems may occur. If a call is disrupted, the therapist will call back unless technical difficulties persist. In such cases, the session can be continued via phone or rescheduled via phone or email, depending on client’s preferences.
  • The therapist reserves the right to refuse or postpone therapy if they feel threatened, disrespected or feel that therapy is not appropriate for any reason.

Code of Care

  • The client will be treated with care at all times

Disclosure of all information during therapy and consultations remains confidential with the following exceptions:

The hypnotherapist has a professional obligation to report to relevant authorities any suspicion of abuse or harm to a child. The hypnotherapist has a professional obligation to report to relevant authorities any concerns if they believe that the client may be intending to cause harm to themselves, the therapist or others.

For a child or young person, the hypnotherapist has a professional obligation to report to parents/guardians (and after discussion with parent/guardians) to report to any relevant authority, for example Social Services and/or the Police, any concerns if they believe the client may be intending to cause harm to themselves, the therapist or others; and/or if the client is at risk of harm from another person. Where/if the client is believed to be at risk of harm from the parents, parents will not be notified before the relevant authority is contacted. For a child or young person, any other contact with the child’s GP will only be made with the parent’s/ guardian’s consent.

  • If receiving medical treatment of any kind, it is recommended that proper diagnosis is sought where relevant also to inform those professionals of your enquiries toward Hypnotherapy.
  • A full copy of The National Council for Hypnotherapy’s Code of Practice is readily available in addition to AfSFH’s (Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy) Code of Practice.
  • Please note Iona Lawson Hypnotherapy is based in the UK and governed by Scottish Law.
